Seismic behavior of cable-stayed bridges under strong ground motions

Abstract Seismic behavior analysis of the long-span cable-stayed bridge is a complex process involving different uncertainties. This paper performs sensitivity bridges using finite element method on Midas/Civil. They include types ground motions scaled to peak acceleration (PGA) levels, effect multi-support excitations due time-lag propagation or nonsynchronous excitations, and angle incidence earthquake determined. To evaluate optimum initial cable prestress forces in cables unknown load factors used. The response quantities interest displacement tower deck, variation force cables, torsional shear force, bending moment at supports. Results show that PGA moderate. In contrast, synchronous seismic excitation significant.
